Virginia's road test is the behind-the-wheel examination in Va. Code § 46.2-325 A, and the statute is far more specific than the pages describing it usually are. Before taking it you must either show evidence of a state-approved driver education class or hand the examiner a signed behind-the-wheel maneuvers checklist on a DMV form. The car you bring must meet the equipment requirements of Chapter 10 and carry a valid inspection sticker, and an autocycle may not be used at all.
The statute also limits the examiner. No otherwise competent applicant may be required to demonstrate parking except in an adequate parking space between horizontal markers — and not between flags or sticks simulating parked vehicles. Motorcycles are examined separately under § 46.2-337, with distinct road tests for two-wheeled and three-wheeled machines.
