Failing a Virginia DMV examination has consequences written into the Code, and they are the single most useful thing a test page can tell you. Fail the behind-the-wheel examination and you must wait two days before taking another. Fail it three times and you cannot take a fourth until you complete the in-vehicle component of driver instruction at a driver training school licensed under Chapter 17, or a comparable approved course. Fail the knowledge examination three times and the same bar applies to the classroom component — or, if you are at least 18, to a course of instruction based on the Virginia Driver's Manual, which may be taken in a classroom or online.
